HISTORY
Tri-State Testing and Drilling (small business) was founded by Q.T. Morphis in 1985 in Chattanooga, Tennessee as an emerging small business. Mr. Morphis managed similar companies over the previous 25 years in Chattanooga. Tri-State Testing and Drilling provided the full range of geotechnical, environmental, construction and laboratory testing and drilling services.
In 1996 Mr. Morphis sold his interest in the company to a group which included Robert Bittel. Mr. Bittel is president of the company and has held that position since the change in ownership. He has been associated with Tri-State since 1989.Mr. Bittel is involved with all aspects of the business including the day to day management of personnel, operations, marketing, and financial analysis.
In 2007, Tri-State Testing and Drilling took the opportunity to spin off the laboratory testing and engineering services to a third party resulting in retaining the drilling services and forging a new identity for Tri-State Drilling, LLC. The transformation included upgrading equipment and adding personnel to nearly double the size.
In 2013 Alex Bittel accepted full time duties after working the past several years as a driller’s assistant while finishing his education. He worked with various drill crews learning various methods of drilling. He first assumed scheduling resources and now hands on in managing the day to day drilling operations.
Tri-State Drilling continues adding depth to its services to providing geotechnical, geo-construction, environmental, exploration and water resources and gained increased sales in the federal geotechnical and environmental drilling, testing and grouting programs.
Tri-State Drilling located in Chattanooga, has offices and shop facilities in Nashville Tennessee, as well as locally based resources in Knoxville, TN. The drilling services geographic reach now extends throughout the eastern and southeastern United States.
The company operates more than 19 various types of drill units including but not limited to track crawlers, skid mount for barge platforms. ATV, truck mounted for different types of drilling surfaces.
